"Freier Fall" - fanfic?

Elementary episode 1x23 - "The Woman"

allaire: Richard Sharpe - created by wizzicons. (Sharpe)

Totally unexpected plot twist. Really. Not like I didn't see it coming half a season ago. Oh noes.

So Irene Adler returns. Duh.

It isn't as though the signs (no body, just a huge pool of blood pointing towards a serial killer conveniently having that as his M.O.) were particularly hard to miss. Blah.

Also, an art restaurateur who wears low-cut tops while painting (apparently she's not afraid of dripping paint where paint doesn't belong!), and her wild blonde mane unrestrained instead of gathered together (and out of the way) in something as utilitarian (and sensible) as, say, a ponytail, so she can concentrate instead of being constantly blinded by a curtain of hair? Totally believable. :::eyeroll:::

Also, now why did it take only a few minutes into the episode for me to mutter "She's a lying liar who lies"?

I kind of like this show, but could it please stop treating me as though I'm stupid?!

I miss you, Stammtisch!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] slashbabe, I already have all the photos she took of us last weekend, but they - and of course, seeing you all again - reminded me how much I miss our monthly meets and how incredibly satisfying it is to not be the only slasher in the area. I've always been more of a lurker and avid reader than someone who gets involved in some sort of community online, but these days? I feel like I'm in exile, kind of like Rapunzel locked up in her tower, although hopefully with less hair. *g*

Why, oh why, is there apparently a dearth of slashers in my state? Is there any correlation to the business hours of supermarkets, the variety of foreign restaurants, and/or the number of Starbucks around?

[personal profile] xkatjafx has pimped TFTF to me (which means I currently read more than just Tony/Steve), I really don't live that far away after all, and what about, say, August? I'd be perfectly willing to bribe you all with muffins. *g*

Which reminds me: [livejournal.com profile] slashbabe plans to come see me in September. I don't know whether her car's full already or not... anyway, anyone willing to be slept on by my cats is welcome to camp out in my living room! :-)))

Numb3rs or: World of Pretty.

allaire: Daniel, I surrender. (surrender)
Whoa, Numb3rs has sucked me in again. It's the perfect show to watch when you're sick. I love the underlying family vibe, and the case-of-the-week structure, and all the pretty eye candy in form of Rob Morrow in jeans, dark shirts, and FBI tactical gear.

However, once again, I'm left with a fierce longing for a long, insightful story pairing the Eppes brothers that actually deals with the fact that an intimate relationship between them would be something that no-one could ever learn of. Not without Don and Charlie losing everything.

Also, I want more Don/Colby slash. Preferably post-Trust Metric. Someone wrote in a story that Colby has a kind of hot submissive vibe. Yowza. So true.

Oh, where was I? Slash pairings on Numb3rs. Right. I'd also love to read Colby/David. Of which there's far too little, and also, nothing longer than an episode tag.

There are really enough male main characters on this show that one's kind of spoilt for choice. Well, I'm surprisingly OTP-free in regard to Numb3rs, but for some reason, I can't stand slash involving Larry Fleinhardt and/or Ian Edgerton. Despite the fact that I like their characters just fine. Strange. Irrational. I don't care.

Anyway, why are the only stories exceeding maybe 2.000 words that feature Colby in an m/m relationship I'd read about ones pairing him with Evan Lorne (of Stargate: Atlantis)? There's something wrong with this world.

Want more Don. Want, want, want.

Yet another fandom full of suit!porn...

Ever since that protracted cold in December/January, I've just been so tired. Why can't I simply stay at home instead of going to work? For two weeks at least? I want time for me, dammit.

Anyway, I've been drawn in by "Suits" which raises my weekly series-I-have-to-watch-immediately to four: "Person of Interest", "Elementary" ,"Arrow", and now also "Suits".

The two (more or less local) slashers I hung out with today agreed enthusiastically upon watching the pilot of "Suits". The interactions between Harvey Specter and Mike Ross are, without a doubt, very slashy, plus Gabriel Macht is a nice piece of eye-candy. I still wonder about the unprecedented amount of leeway Harvey is willing to give to Mike whose verbal barbs, whining, and general heap of backtalk often, in my opinion, exceed what one would expect to hear from a mere associate. Which supports the slash theory, I suppose. Because either Harvey a) desperately needs a friend, or b) is in love with Mike.

Aside from that, today's meet-up was nice. I've missed talking shop with other slash fans, and I have absolutely no problem with pimping "The Sentinel" and/or SGA. And Gibbs-bashing is always incredibly freeing as well. *g*

And finally, if I just knew how/where to get the unaired pilot of "Numb3rs" starring Gabriel Macht... Google, you've failed me! :-(((

Merry Christmas!
created by [personal profile] presents

...to everyone of you!

Unfortunately, it's the same as every year for me - I have the flu (since Saturday, oh joy), and try to sleep it off in the hopes of getting fit again for New Year's Eve. I hope you're all feeling well and get to spend time with your loved ones!

Where, oh where, has the time gone?!

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"

  • Dec. 16th, 2012 at 6:06 PM
allaire: Eames, thoughtful. (Eames)
I watched "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" yesterday night. It's no comparison to LotR, although it was quite entertaining, and thankfully far from a kids' movie (like the book translated into German that I read as a teenager and didn't appreciate at all). Frankly, I hardly remember the events of the book, so I'm not going to pick out all the scenes that weren't in Tolkien's work save maybe:

Radagast the Brown. Ouch. Peter Jackson, why, oh why, did you have to turn him into a gnarled wood gnome with something awfully similar to bird droppings adorning the right side of his face and the demeanor of a demented squirrel? Plus, the hare-pulled sled? Santa Claus on fucking acid, I swear.

Radagast was only mentioned in the books - once. No description, no details whatsoever. He used to be one the of the mysteries of Middle Earth, something deliberately left up to the reader to imagine. I always thought of him as a Saint Francis of Assisi-like character, tall, taciturn, ascetic, fiercely protective of his charges: all animals. And extremely powerful, although utterly uninterested in meddling in the affairs of humans, elves, and the like.
Also, there's this portrayal of Radagast in fanfic that I could very well picture, too.

In short, a competent, mysterious character, equal to the others of his order we, the readers, had already encountered: Gandalf the Grey and Saruman the White.

Not a comic relief.

Aside from that: I still can't tell the dwarves apart. Perhaps this cheat sheet might help?

Well, the three dwarves easiest to identify are the pretty ones: Thorin, Kili, and Fili.

What does it mean that I now want to read Thorin of Oakenshield slash, and can't think of a possible pairing that doesn't make me go all "bleh"? Perhaps Thorin/Legolas? There'd be enough strife in the background (what with Legolas being Thranduil's son) to make that pairing intriguing, but Legolas... urgh. He's just too Ken-doll like for me; always has been.

Oh, wait, John H. Watson as Bilbo? Threw me violently during the whole movie!

Also, Gandalf (and later Elrond)'s arrogance was such a major turn-off in this movie, I'm glad The Hobbit was filmed after LotR instead of before, otherwise I would today have an entirely different opinion of both characters.

Also, I met a fellow slasher at a party yesterday.

I HATE MY FUCKING LIFE. I've just managed to (somehow) delete my "Documents" folder, and wanted to backup all my data in preparation of powering down the computer in the hopes of the folder restoring itself. Result: I've killed about 90 % of my backup as well as the files I damned fucking well wanted to backup.

IT help won't be here until tomorrow evening. I think I might just die until then.

Edit 03 Oct 2012, 08:15 p.m.:

I think I can now lower the alert level. *g*

The IT guy managed to restore most of my files, and what the recovery suite couldn't grab, I've downloaded again (thank you for the history, Mozilla Firefox!). Re-naming and re-sorting about a quarter of the restored files which ended up bearing gibberish headers wasn't fun, but the end is in sight.

Let's just say I've now been up for 38 hours straight, and my head is going 'splodey. Still, an improvement to Monday.

Why is it always one's own stupidity that angers one the most? If I just had re-checked the drive I was accessing before entering 'delete'...

So, shower, then bed. I'm so dead.

Happy birthday, [personal profile] i_am_schizo!

Ganz ehrlich, hättet ihr beide nicht ein klein wenig weniger brav sein können? Gutes Wetter ist ja generell besser als kalt und nass, aber man kann es trotzdem übertreiben, wißt ihr?! *g*

- that's exactly what "The Dark Knight Rises" was. I think I'll simply practice denial (What third movie? There was no third movie.) Gah. What is it with people creating an awesome show/movie/universe and then fucking it up with a disappointing finish?

That movie's Bruce Wayne wasn't a Bruce Wayne I recognized.

Anyway, I'm glad I decided to watch it in a cinema so soon after its release; if I'd known about more spoilers than what was in the trailers, I might have postponed it, and I never would have made it through the entire movie uninterrupted at home.

Hello yet another show, meet shark.

Seriously, the last four episodes of "In Plain Sight" simply don't deserve the long entry I've just written and decided to delete.

The short version: Let's just say the show didn't go out with a bang, but with a whimper. Mary, like far too many main characters of the female persuasion starring in a crime show lately, lost all her defining characteristics and was transformed into a socially acceptable version of herself, with the series trying to sell it as an improvement and as increased maturity (well, I'm calling it "bad writing").

Also, the horror of episode 5x05 "Drag Me To Hell" was just--just... indescribable, and the weaknesses of the final three episodes made the whole anticipated "return of Mary's father" storyline a travesty.

Final Conclusion: Another show that should have been canceled at least a season ago. Good riddance, "In Plain Sight". I'm not going to miss you.

No, today isn't Friday the 13th...

  • Jun. 15th, 2012 at 11:57 PM

...although a friend was wondering over precisely that a couple of hours ago when next to nothing went right with her order at the restaurant we had dinner at.

By now, I'm inclined to believe that today is, in fact, the 13th, and all our calendars are simply showing it wrong.

In short: My freaking computer keeled over, either dead or in a coma. Considering the boot sector of my C:\ drive seems to be fried, I'm tending towards "dead for good".

Typically, the last full backup I made was some time back in the fall last year.

Dammit, I already had a new computer - picked out, bought, carried home, unpacked... about a month ago. Only it was missing the right port to connect my monitor to, and due to the employées at the shop I got it from being unhelpful and outright rude, I took it back and resolved to wait a little longer and buy a faster (and by then, hopefully not much more expensive) machine some day in the future. Plus, I couldn't psyche myself up to deal with Windows 7 yet.

Well, now the joke's on me.

I'm quite sure the data on my separate F:\ drive is safe, but a lot of stuff had, due to severe lack of space, to stay on the C:\ drive... and what about all my e-mails?

:::weeps angry tears and gnashes her teeth:::

Edit August 5, 2012: I bought a new computer the day after the crash, and by now, I've mostly gotten used to it. Mainly I love how quietly it runs, but the processor speed and the size of the hard drive is also awesome. Of course, Windows 7 is almost as exasperating as I expected it to be, and I miss a couple of programs I either couldn't reinstall or was afraid the 64-bit system wouldn't be able to cope with. I have all my files back (the computer guy made two house calls, and working together, we managed to retrieve the entire data off both hard drives despite the corrupted partition table), including my e-mails (although updating to the newest release of Mozilla Thunderbird was daunting - for a while, nothing worked properly). Yay?
