I didn't think it possible, but after all this time, Veronica Mars didn't go out with a bang but a whimper.
What the heck was "The Bitch is Back" all about?
Yet another secret society gets introduced? Didn't we already have something pretty similar in an earlier season, plus it featured Veronica serenading the members (= a huge plus point)?
Somehow the Kane family couldn't get their son cleared of a kidnapping charge, so he had to flee the country, but they have enough political clout to be at the center of a vast conspiracy placing influential people in society? Huh?
Plus, "The Castle" was stupid enough to give an invite to Wallace, of all people? Like it isn't known at college (and pretty much all over town) that he and Veronica are thick as thieves?
Then after Veronica obtains the members list, she has nothing better to do than give it to an acquaintance who intends to sue The Castle for admittance? Double huh? Because evidently forcing a über-secret society to take on female members is way more important than closing unsolved murder cases with victims whose families have most likely been in an agony of fear and loss for years. Yo, feminists ahoy! Sue The Castle! The fact that the "confessions" on the Kane hard drive contain information to at least a handful of murders is irrelevant in comparison. Sure.
That's just the kind of thinking that'll get you far in the FBI, Veronica.
They could have brought back all the old characters for this episode. Wallace's mother, his ex-girlfriend, Duncan, whatever. Or at least they could have hinted as to what happened to them.
Hell, they could at least have included all the current characters and have them interact in some way. Parker breaks up with Logan, yes, but exchanges not a single word with her friend, Veronica?
Furthermore, Piz? He is the Riley Finn of the Mars-verse. Bland, boring, predictable, a blank slate without a set character.
Sure, the whole Logan-Veronica angle has been overused so much I still get a rash whenever they talk to each other on screen (mainly because I want to strangle Veronica). Still, I'd rather have taken yet another ride on the our-relationship-is-so-screwed-up carousel of LoVe than imagine Veronica with Piz. Urgh.
If that final episode was intended as a lead-in to yet another season, I so get why the show was canceled. Good riddance, guys.
