Finally, the rest of Highlander - The Series has been released on DVD in Germany! (Or will be, soon. Season 5, whoo!)

Usually, when I buy a series I like on DVD I honestly don't care much whether the DVDs are region 1 and therefore without a dubbed German track, or region 2 (they always include the original language as a second track anyway). I prefer to watch anything in the original language; so I only occasionally think of buying the dubbed version when there are some thoughts swirling around my brain that I might need the more-easily-pimpable version to 'convert' friends whose English is not that great.

Often, the dubbed version is shorter than the original release, anyway; just look at Miami Vice. I always compare the runtimes of both versions before I buy the longer one, be it in English or German.

However, a long time ago I decided to make an exception where Highlander was concerned.

Adrian Paul might be pretty to look at for some people (he's really not my cup of tea, but whatever), but his language skills? Are seriously lacking. Anyone who's had the misfortune to watch the pilot of Tracker knows what I'm talking about. He. Simply. Can't. Speak. Like a human being. He grunts and growls, and sounds worse than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme combined in their early years as 'actors'.

Add to that Alexandra Vandernoot who, no matter how skilled or pretty, is not a native speaker and whose accent is a mixture of cute and annoying, and the early episodes of the show are really, really hard to deal with, comprehension-wise.

Thank god for the German dubbing. I bought season 1 of Highlander in the dubbed version so I could avoid going /headdesk/ the whole time while watching, and I will continue to do so for the rest of the show.

At least, in German, Duncan McLeod doesn't sound like an ape who somehow got taught how to speak.

I like the character, but seriously? Any words coming out of the actor's mouth are an affront to my ears.
