I love, love, LOVE the IT guy from work. I want to marry him and bear his children.

No, seriously, I'm gushingly grateful right now. I've been fighting with part of my Christmas present for 1 1/2 weeks now, a new 160 GB harddrive, and simply could not get my computer to recognize the wretched thing. Then I screamed for help on the electronic bulletin board at work. And got a ton full of well-meant contradictory advice from a lot of people.

Until one of them offered to make a start-up disk for me and walk me through the process of teaching my mainboard how to recognize a harddrive this size. That was yesterday and unfortunately didn't work out, but today he asked me to bring him both my new and my old harddrive so he could format and partition it, and copy my data onto it.

I gave him both harddrives today with a queasy feeling in my stomach (my D:\ drive is chock full of slash), but am now extremely happy that I did it. Everything's right where it belongs, and I won't have to spend another 5-10 hours transferring the data via USB. Yay!

Now I only need to install my new DVD-burner, but that's a job for another day. Oooof.
