I was right. For once, I wish I hadn't been.
While petting my rabbit on Sunday, I found a small hairless spot with some kind of pustules on his back - I instantly remembered Eotara's rats and their proclivity towards developing cancer due to too selective breeding, and feared the worst.
My mother went to the vet yesterday. It is cancer.
Evidently operating is useless since the cancer has most likely spread through his whole body, and he may very well live for two or three more years.
I've already lost two rabbits, and I know we won't get another one after this one. I really can't face a time in which there is no small furry bundle hiding behind my chair, no droppings scattered all over my carpet, no gnawing sounds in the middle of the night, and no hair from a winter or summer coat sticking to my black jeans. I'll start again talking to my room in general - I already know how that goes; it's a habit.
Damnit, I don't want him to die.
