I've just finished watching the series finale of City Homicide ("No Greater Honour Part 6 - Ghosts") and boy, am I going to miss that show. Okay, admittedly, I'm mostly going to miss the show it used to be in its heyday (when Simon hadn't yet been, you know, character-raped by the scriptwriters, and Duncan's friendship with his colleages hadn't yet been turned ad absurdum with the stupid way of handling his return to work after having been shot), that is, seasons 1 and 2, but still. I've even come to terms with the presence of the newbie (and IMHO superfluous) squad members, as in Allie Kingston, Nick Buchanan and Rhys Levitt. The show Jumped The Shark in season 3, but okay, there were a handful of semi-decent story lines afterward (Wilton Sparkes' return, the revelation of Jarvis having supplied Claire Jackson with crack just before he sent her undercover and got her killed, Duncan finding his sister). I kind of hoped Jen and Matt would end up together (somehow, apparently, Nick was worth the risk whereas Mattie wasn't - huh, Jen?), but - whatever. They went out on a (kind of contrived) bang.

Gah. So it wasn't perfect - neither the show nor its end. Nonetheless.

Thank you, Australia. City Homicide's the reason I'll give all further Aussie crime shows the benefit of the doubt and start watching them, no matter what the tag line.
