[livejournal.com profile] mareen was right -- Hornblower is the ship slut! *giggles*

I just watched the 4th movie, "The Frogs and the Lobsters", and the Hornblower/Pellew subtext is even more pronounced in there than it was in the movies before that.

Right in the beginning in "The Frogs and the Lobsters", when Hornblower buys a new uniform to befit his new status as a Lieutenant, Pellew is the first to see him 'dressed to the nines'. And yet he doesn't say anything -- in contrast to Archie and the other officers' immediate teasing.

When I watched that scene, I said to myself that it was far more telling that Pellew didn't comment on the new uniform than if he had.

And boy was I right. In the end, when Hornblower can't hold back his tears, Hornblower not only doesn't get reprimanded for his loss of control; no, Pellew even comments in a way that proves the captain did, in fact, notice the uniform. Ahem.

And the French colonel thought Pellew's regard for Hornblower so obvious he couldn't help but comment on it. Ahem again.

Poor Archie doesn't stand a chance.
