Miami Vice or not Miami Vice?

Seriously, CreedCascade and TJ freak me out with their view of the Crockett/Tubbs dynamic in Miami Vice. I cannot shake the feeling that they must have watched a different series than I.

Example:

Rico looked at Sonny and smiled. "We already know what we want. We’ll start with a couple of beers. I’ll have the stuffed fennel and he’ll have the crab cakes."

[...]

"I was going to get the antipasto, Rico," Sonny commented.

"You can have some of mine if you want. You’ll like the crab cakes. Antipasto would be too rich for you, anyway."
The Sonny Crocket I know would have glared at Rico and said in a deceptively soft voice that he's old enough to make his own menu selections, thank you very much, and that Rico-Baby could eat his own damned crab cakes while he ordered antipasto, "Miami's heat too much for you, partner?"

Where does this need come from to make some characters into hopeless bottom boys? Sonny Crockett, Jim Kirk, Fox Mulder, Daniel Jackson, Duncan MacLeod... Gives me the shivers.
