Seriously, CreedCascade and TJ freak me out with their view of the Crockett/Tubbs dynamic in Miami Vice. I cannot shake the feeling that they must have watched a different series than I.
Example:
Rico looked at Sonny and smiled. "We already know what we want. We’ll start with a couple of beers. I’ll have the stuffed fennel and he’ll have the crab cakes."The Sonny Crocket I know would have glared at Rico and said in a deceptively soft voice that he's old enough to make his own menu selections, thank you very much, and that Rico-Baby could eat his own damned crab cakes while he ordered antipasto, "Miami's heat too much for you, partner?"
[...]
"I was going to get the antipasto, Rico," Sonny commented.
"You can have some of mine if you want. You’ll like the crab cakes. Antipasto would be too rich for you, anyway."
Where does this need come from to make some characters into hopeless bottom boys? Sonny Crockett, Jim Kirk, Fox Mulder, Daniel Jackson, Duncan MacLeod... Gives me the shivers.

cranky

Well, anyway, don't despair, you're not alone, Allaire :-)
Too bad that there are so few people out there who still write MV, so I guess it's either 'write what you want to read' or 'live with what others write'. I won't complain too loudly ;-)
Too bad Flamingo 'deserted' MV for SH. I'd so love a long Sonny/Rico novel that's totally in character, but like you said, I fear one would have to write it oneself. ;-P
I want cool, tough Sonny Crockett, who may be vulnerable on occasion, but is still the most successful and motivated detective of the Miami Vice department - entirely capable of looking after himself; someone who'd kick anyone's ass who dared suggest he needed a keeper.
