Mrrrrrr... I just came home from the "Verzaubert"-Festival in Frankfurt, a gay and lesbian movie festival. That was the first time we felt like a minority in the cinema -- five or six girls only among an all-male gay audience. ;-) The movie wasn't that much to write about, but, on the spur of the moment, mamoru, mareen and Cora decided we absolutely had to go into "Bowling for Columbine". And that most definitely constituted the highlight of today!

Just a few observations:
- I never laughed as much during a movie,
- Michael Moore is a god,
- South Park rocks!,
- Marilyn Manson is highly intelligent, articulate and -- dead on target,
- Charlton Heston is an embarrassment for his country, and
- Canadians are cool!!!! Benton Fraser evidently isn't one of a dying breed, but rather the norm.

If asked, an American will lock and deadbolt his door and sleep with a gun under his pillow despite never having been the victim of a crime, whereas a Canadian will leave his door unlocked despite his house having been broken into and vandalized in the past while he slept. Oh, and the American will live in constant fear while the Canadian will feel secure. What about it -- let's all emigrate to Canada?! *g*

In short, Michael Moore's thesis was that the high crime rate (most especially violent crime) results from his country living in fear; a fear that's encouraged by its media. Not by the guns it owns (although that's a factor, too), but rather by the way it treats its people.

So it's no wonder that sometimes the laughter got stuck in my throat. Our society 'americanizes' itself more and more, media coverage and yellow press being only an example. And just look at the latest articles in the press: We now also have our psychopatic killers, school massacres and the like.

Canada, here we come!
