I read the article in the "TV Highlights" today that deals with the remake of "Battlestar Galactica" and was less than thrilled when I saw the pictures since they awfully much reminded me of "Starship Troopers", "Space: Above and Beyond" and "Stargate SG1". Just the uniforms alone and the US-Marine look of the protagonists made me blink in consternation.
The worst was the content of the article, though, saying that the producers had deliberatedly changed the former 'Egyptian' look of the helmets, uniforms etc to one a lot more 'modern". Hah. "Modern" my ass. There are a few stories at By Your Command that wonderfully extrapolated that premise and enriched what we fans of old already knew of the Colonies' Kobolian background (look especially for "Anna" in the author section) and its ties to ancient civilisations on Earth.
Is this 'Re-Imagining' supposed to turn into an advert for the US forces? Why have all characters English names in addition to their 'original' callsigns (which used to be the old series' characters' names)? I haven't seen a trailer, script i.e. and therefore just would like to direct you to Battlestar Galactica script remake review (at BattlestarGalactica.com, Richard Hatch's site) in which the reviewer proves to be far more eloquent and objective than I could ever hope to be. Just the confirmation of what I'd already heard -- Starbuck and Boomer are now women -- turned my stomach and made me sputter in outrage. Of course, you can also check out Battlestar Galactica for a different view; after all, SciFi has to praise its own series.
Oh, and the new 'Apollo' is ugly. *eg*

Allaire,
who may soon keep her fingers crossed for the Klingons to hit certain 'female' characters' Vipers and make them go spectacularly 'BOOM!' in a fascinating (and final!) light show ;-)
At least we get BG episodes on RTL right now.
