For anyone interested in another rant about my self-defense and arms training course, please continue here.

Well, that week went rather... not... well. *sigh*

First I couldn't believe my eyes when, upon arriving in the room I'd been assigned in the training facility, I found someone else's luggage already there -- and then I was told that we had to share our rooms with another course member. Lovely.

My colleagues who'd participated in the same training in 2002 each had a room with two beds all for themselves, but evidently the Ministry has decreed this double accommodation because the courses have to be run as packed and close together as possible due to the large amount of applicants which is again due to the ever-rising numbers of personnel assigned to the departments now combatting clandestine employment. Evidently no-one at the Ministry cares that there was a court decision on a similar case, ruling that training courses that run longer than a week necessitate that the participants are assigned a single room each.

Anyway, I had a huge row with my new roommate the very first night and slept very badly. Which was, like, so not surprising, considering that I usually can't sleep a wink when I hear someone breathing. An idiosyncracy my father, [livejournal.com profile] xkatjafx and [livejournal.com profile] mamoru22 can attest to. So I pulled out all the stops and annoyed the administration of the training facility so much that they finally (evidently after a bunch of calls to the Ministry etc.) agreed to give me a single room... but not at the facility. No, I had to find a hotel close-by. Lovely. So I now can sleep peacefully, but have to shower at the gym after the self-defense lessons, carry all my stuff around in a gym bag and miss out on a lot of the off-duty undertakings of my colleagues because I'm simply not there when they decide to do something in town.

I'm so not impressed, but it beats me trying to drive and/or shoot after a week of insomnia; I wouldn't want to be responsible for the consequences.

The weather's far, far too hot. The world ends in S. and no-one noticed.

Plus, I cannot figure out how to draw back and lock back the slide on the damn Sig Sauer P225 we are supposed to learn how to use. Everytime I draw back the slide, my right (gun) hand just slips a little on the grip, and my right thumb cannot reach the slide release lever. If I don't manage that next week, I don't know what to do. I always thought the self defense lessons would make me want to pack it all in -- I never thought it would be handling my bloody gun.

Which reminds me, it's kinda fun to learn how to get a colleague down on the ground to handcuff him. Must be my kinky side. *eg*
