Uncovered a nice case of shameless plagiarism in the "Starsky & Hutch" fandom tonight. Some "authors" are simply audacious as hell, and evidently stupid enough to think that their actions will remain secret for eternity. Well, since the original author sees it all with a huge amount of humor with a healthy dash of sarcasm thrown in, I'll try to do the same. It is sort of funny, I'll admit that...

I've told Sue; whatever happens now is up to her. She's mainly laughing, I think, and wants to slay the "author" via sarcasm. *eg*
Let's just say that the original is very well written (like all of Sue's fiction), while the copy is pretty much OOC for S&H. Embarrassing, really; if I stole a story, I'd at least steal a better fitting one, or I'd have re-written more of it, but then, that would have required sufficient editor work to make stealing unprovitable in the first place. ;-)
The weird thing is, that Starsky and Hutch are in each other's pockets while the guys in the Bill are kinda distant. Yup. Doesn't fit at all.
*I'd probably laugh at the stupidity as well*
As for the distant vs. in-each-other's-pockets part... that was the main reason the story didn't work for me, even before I recognized the similarities to Sue's novel. The "author" evidently tried to explain that away by saying that it was set before the pilot. Considering that it is canon that Starsky and Hutch were best friends already in the Academy, that "explanation" is more than weak.
Sue believes that more of Cappristar's stories may have been stolen out of old zines, and having skimmed over several of them I'm inclined to agree. The protagonists never feel like S&H, but rather like distant strangers.
*is still shaking her head about Cappristar's idiocy*
Anyone who still wants to check out the similarities between Sue's original and Cappristar's copy, please e-mail me, and I'll send it to you.
