I'm currently reading Vin-centric gen stories in the Mag7 fandom.

Someone please hand me a gun. Need ta shoot myself. IMMEDIATELY.
I'm evidently beyond all kind of first-aid.

<sound of hammer being cocked>
<despairing sigh>
BANG!

You're kidding! You're reading gen stories?!? You must be really desperate for M7 stories... ;-).

Believe me, I am.
Lots and lots and lots of stories.

The whole harddrive copy folder's now full. Reckon I'll be spending the rest of today, tomorrow, heck, the whole next week, digging through 'em. I'm so sick. ;-)

Hmm, I probably should be glad that I'm not into M7 then ;-). I've heard it's hard to find good slash stories in that fandom and a lot of people are reading gen because of that... still, it's good to have lots and lots of stories :-).

<nods emphatically:> Unfortunately, that's true. Most especially for the pairing Chris/Ezra (apart from some very noticable exceptions).

Now, I'm on the "Ezra Hurtaholics Fanfiction Web Page" and trying to drown out my Vin-overdose in Ezra pain, hurt, agony... you know. The like. ;-)

'm sick, sick, sick...

Allaire, still awake, still crazy

Yeah... very, very, very sick... but I like that in a person *g*.

Yes, and I've found out various things so far:

1. When Ezra's hurt, everyone gathers in the clinic and
a) berates himself for mistrusting him
b) feels guilty for thinking he'd run out on them instead of running headfirst into trouble
c) sleeps in a chair by his bedsite
d) tries to force-feed him
e) reads to him
f) worries like hell
2. Broken ribs are normal, heck, re-broken ribs are normal, too!
3. Bullet holes can be sustained in a numerous fashion, and always get infected, but never are sufficient to kill a man.
4. Gambling can be trouble. Riding out can be trouble. Hey, walking around in the fucking village can be trouble! ;-)
5. Clothes are only worn to get ruined. Or used as bandages. Or both.
6. Self-sacrifice is common, but is usually survived by the man in question.
7. Kicking someone when he's already down is one of the great joys of mankind.
8. Winning something in a poker game is only a prelude to losing the money spectacularly.
9. Ezra will always be misunderstood... until the last paragraph.
10. He'll always think that no-one cares/trusts/likes him... until the sequel. Or the sequel's sequel.
11. Child-abuse is incurably liked to being green-eyed and 'auburn-haired'.
12. Breaking down in a crying fit is a normal occupation for an ATF agent.
13. Thankfully, gamblers in the Old West have a better grip on their emotions.

And so on, and so on, and so on... <sigh>

Ah yes, the joy that is Hurt!Ezra .

I can't decide who's worse off, Ezra or Vin. Well, Vin gets raped and tortured more and Chris can do the comforting.

Don't even get me started on the miracles of 19th century medicine (raped with a arm-thick tree-branch and yes, Ezra survived, Nathan somehow managed that).

Not to forget the fact that Chris always broods, is drunk a lot and extremely violent. I just rewatched a lot of the eps and somehow didn't see that.
And don't get me started on the idea that a superior office can get away with hitting one of his agents (ATF).

I hope my stories turn out differently. Btw, in cause you ever want to write in an AU-universe of my creation you are cordially invited .

[livejournal.com profile] minotaurs wrote a nice rant about the whole crying thing. And I so agree with him. Hell, I don't cry that much, but then I never cry in public. Countenance is everything . I'm sure Ezra would agree with that.
[identity profile] allaire.livejournal.com wrote:

Hurt!Ezra, indeed.

And it's true, I've also found more than my share of Raped!Vin stories, and each time, sex with Chris makes it all *soooo* much better. Right. Argh. I'm keeping away from those kind of stories by now; had more than enough of this in the 'The Sentinel' fandom.

And boy, you definitely read the same Raped!Ezra story as I did -- I wondered exactly about the same thing! Instead of dying of a massive infection, our poor boy survived, not much worse for wear. Tree branch not withstanding. Don't even get me started. I may be a masochist since I deleted this story far too late, but I'm not a sadist by doing something like this to a
character I like! There are limits -- at least the limits of good taste. Or at least, there should be. Or twenty pages of warning beforehand.

I can somehow see the Clichéd!Chris far easier than you <g> apparently, but then, I also want at least a brilliant smile out of that man in a good story! His whole face changes... wow. <wipes off drool from her chin>

As for this rant by [livejournal.com profile] minotaur -- do you happen to have a URL for that?

And I cannot see Ezra cry in public, either. Not in this lifetime
[identity profile] gwendolen.livejournal.com wrote:

Really liked that list. I think once I start thinking I can come up with a few more too
And I still have a problem with clichéd Chris. Maybe that's why I have so many problems writing him because I don't want to write him clichéd.
And totally agree about that smile. Love that smile. Chris smiling at Ezra ...

btw, rant should be [Unknown site tag] I checked the name at least three times and still forgot the s. Bad luck that there's also a minotaur around.

I think I'm more of a masochist than you cause I actually finished that story and I might even still have it somewhere in the chaos of my hd.

[identity profile] allaire.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 21st, 2002 02:31 pm (UTC)
Hey, don't get me even started on that... I'm nowhere near finished. ;-)

Ok:
14. No matter how grave the wounds sustained, they always heal without leaving any scars. Heck, Nathan's back was just bad luck!
15. Josiah should just have become a bear... considering how often he's compared to one!
16. Ezra must hate, hate, hate honey -- or slurp it by the gallon... considering how often his voice is described as a smooth honeyed drawl!
17. Chaucer (Ezra's horse) has way more sense than his rider will ever have! Must amount to at least an equine IQ of 200.
18. Ezra and rivers, gourges, ravines, deserts, caves... don't mix. But then, it's wilderness, and as such, utterly deplorable. So it's understandable. ;-)
19. Nathan's main occupation is standing around, making wise-assed cracks at PoorBaby!Ezra's expense, looking worried after the subsequent shootout and then miraculously healing the wounded. Leonard McCoy was way better off... he at least has more often than not a plotline, even in fanfic!
20. And, last but not least, Ezra is always, always, misunderstood. 'Cause no matter how often his 'friends' learn that he's a decent man at heart, they all forget that in the next sequel. To start the whole learning process again. Well, shit happens.

I'll better shut up now. <eg></i

LOL LOL! You've hit on just about every cliche that I've come to know and love in my favored fandom. But hey, I don't know about this reading Vin-centric gen thing! That sounds like mightily drastic action to me! ; )

Need some Ezra-centric gen recs? I see you've found NotTasha. She's one of my faves. Have you tried Sue Bartholomew, GreenWoman, ,Meg Tipper, TL Shaffer...

Lumina~, my temptress! &ltg>
Don't tell me any more authors I absolutely have to read, pleeeease! <whimpers>

<feebly tries to shoo away Lumina~, but then quickly jots down the names mentioned and starts looking for her bookmarked Mag7 archive URLs>

Waaaah!

I've already found Sue Bartholomew and Meg Tipper (that one's due to [livejournal.com profile] gwendolen's post), but so far haven't read anything by GreenWoman or TL Shaffer. But then, I'm still reading the stories I downloaded days ago. The days are just too damn short! ;-)

Allaire,
now giving Vin a wide berth ;-

Re: Lumina~, my temptress! &ltg>
Ah, but it's the allure of Ezra that's the tempter. It's powerless to resist, we are.

If you like Sue B. and GreenWoman, more of their Mag7 gen can be found only in zines. Don't know if you're into zines, but if so, Sue B's novella, Captives, is a fabulous read. My favorite Ezgen fic.

Lumina~ Always ready with Ez recs. (g) Anything to save you from your aforementioned drastic measures!

Thanks for the help -- I appreciate it! :-))) <Allaire, finally able to step back from the abyss, virtually speaking *g*>

<gets glare from Vin in return>

Oops.

Anyway, I don't have many zines, but, depending on how desperate I get, that might change. ;-)

I know... :-)

I feel a bit tempted to try something similar in the TS or Oz fandom, but then, I'm no longer that active in them/that mad about them, so I'll restrain myself. Although... STOP!

Who wants to start?
[identity profile] gwendolen.livejournal.com wrote:

I think I have to join you, cause I've read a whole bunch of gen, not only Ezra-centric but simply seven-centric.
Why are the gen stories in that fandom so often better than the slash-stories? Weepy!Ezra, Girly!Vin, Über-Angry!Chris (somehow everyone seem to miss that that man actually smiles and has a sense of humor).

I want them like I seem them on the screen and not some charicature of the guys.

Anyway, every tried Meg Tipper? She writes some really good gen, great AUS too. Or Eleanor Tremayne, also pretty god if you like Heroic!Ezra with lots of suffering. Also very slashy, just not slash :-(

Al lot of the gen stories are really borderline slash. All that's missing is that final step which they don't take :-(

[identity profile] allaire.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 20th, 2002 02:03 pm (UTC)
Hey, [livejournal.com profile] gwendolen, thanks so much for helping me out on that topic! Already wanted to ask you, since you'd mentioned reading M7 gen, too, but then, I was feeling too... ahem, guilty to try it... wanted to e-mail you and instead tumbled head over heels into this huge pile of fiction. ;-)

Will try the authors you mentioned above. And I can only wholeheartedly recommend Brigitta B and NotTasha; I'm still captured by their stories and nowhere near finished. Woe me! <g>
[identity profile] gwendolen.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 20th, 2002 02:39 pm (UTC)
Guilty??? Might that have something to do with e-mails? .
Hm, you could make it up to me by betaing some of my M7-fics . Yeah, I'm writing M7 again. Right now mostly little ficlets about Ezra.

I'm defintely an Ezra-Girl .

NotTasha is great, you're right there. Her stories don't take much to turn into slash. Have you already read the series where Ezra helps Vin with his reading? Something with Andes, and another story has something with snakes.
It turns into Ezra/Ines (one of the few het-pairing I like) but also has a strong emotional connection between Ezra and Vin.

[identity profile] allaire.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 20th, 2002 02:46 pm (UTC)
Hey, I'd love to beta your M7-ficlets! :-)))

And yeah, I loved Down the Amazon and Snake on the Loose/Snake in the Grass very much, too. Ezra hurt plus Chris regretting his actions... always a good mix! ;-)
But so far, I haven't been able to stomach a het pairing; I always grit my teeth when I have to suffer through a small Chris/Mary scene.

WANT CHRIS/EZRA!!!! <sob>
[identity profile] gwendolen.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 20th, 2002 03:03 pm (UTC)
Me too!!!!!

Okay, I'll mail you the ficlets. One after the other. And yes, some of them will be Chris/Ezra.
How about Chris/Ezra/Vin??? You up for some threesomes?

Btw, have you read the stories from Macx and LaraBee? There you have lots of Chris/Ezra-goodiness.
[identity profile] allaire.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 21st, 2002 02:14 pm (UTC)
Will read those ficlets tomorrow -- didn't go online tonight until an hour ago! :-) And I do need to get some sleep soon...

Threesomes are not exactly my favorites, sorry. Always thought that three people was one too many in bed.
As for Macx and LaraBee, I like their 'Mythological Beasts' storyline, whereas I'm not so fond of the vampiric one. But then, I guess we've all encountered way too many vampires in each and every fandom; it's the AU per se. Don't ask me why. And I try to stay away from fictional pets. Shooo! ;-)
[identity profile] gwendolen.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 22nd, 2002 01:37 pm (UTC)
Okay, waiting patiently. Also for these e-mails. What happened to Boromir?

I like the idea of threesomes, at least in the M7-fandom.

Vampires are always problematic .

Ah, yes, JMS' maxim: No kids, pets or cute computers
[identity profile] allaire.livejournal.com wrote:
May. 23rd, 2002 03:25 pm (UTC)
Ficlet's on its way back to you! :-)

JMS mentioned those three as a big no-no somewhere?! Really?! Guess that proves, once again, why I fell so hard for B5. <smirks> Sensible boy.
