The joys of a rented apartment

Last month, for the fifth or sixth time, my TV magazine was stolen again. The house I live in has six apartments, and since it is an old building, the individual mail boxes are in the hallway. The entrance door cannot be opened but by a key. Which is why the mailman leaves the mail on the floor outside the house and relies on one of the tenants to sort it into the individual mail boxes. Either the person doing that kept my magazine for themselves, or someone saw it protruding from my mail box and took it. Again.

As usual, I called the publisher and had them send me a replacement. Understandably, they were less than thrilled; they told me I am way above the countrywide average. Again, not surprising.

So I called and later wrote to the representative of the landlord and told him to fix this by putting up larger mail boxes in front of the building. So far, nothing has happened. I'm still asking around at work to find out whether it falls under the landlord's obligations to provide a new mail box as mentioned or not. I guess we'll have to see. In the meantime, I suppose I'd better prepare myself for my next TV magazine to disappear, too.

Then, on Sunday evening, all of a sudden I was unable to get hot water - the damn boiler broke. I had to shower in ice-cold water yesterday, and while I managed to get enough today to clean my dishes, I don't expect that to last. Pressing the "suppress interference" button several times sometimes results in a working boiler, but that only works for a short time. I wish I knew what is wrong with the bloody thing. Once again, I called the landlord's representative, once again, I was told that they would take care of the problem, and once again I remain unconvinced. Grrr. If they don't manage to put things right no later than the end of the week, I will cut the rent. This is unacceptable.

At least my neighbor doesn't seem to be in the mood to party. Thank God.

Showering with cold water?!
Brrr...that sucks big time!

I´d threaten them with cutting the rent first - maybe that will get them to do something quicker...

To my neverending shock, the competent repair service called me today. Evidently - for once - the landlord's representative has actually done what he's promised. I was told they'd show up tomorrow morning to repair the boiler.

And I still have icicles from the ice-cold shower... *g*
