Moving sucks. Big time. #1

I just spent the last three days
a) packing and
b) transporting
the contents of my pre-furnished room in Cologne to my (so far unfurnished *g*) apartment in W. You wouldn't believe the amount of things one considers vitally necessary! <groans>

I had to drive the distance twice and both times, my car was packed to the max! Boxes and bags piled to its roof. I'm still surprised the car didn't break down and equally astonished that nothing flew from the back to the front each time I braked. Urgh.

And I lost count of the times I had to climb/go down the stairs in either place, loaded down with something heavy.

As you see, my computer's working fine. Heh. At least something.

Currently I'm sitting on my sleeping bag on the wooden floor of my new kitchen, the keyboard perched perilously on a small box, the mousepad on my knees, the computer sitting on the sole part of furniture (a little table), and typing this entry. My neck is aching. And my back. And my legs. The floor is quite -- uncomfortable. *g*

My furniture (that is, the movers) will arrive on Tuesday. My new kitchen hopefully a few days later, because until then, I have no stove and no fridge. Which, with the current temperature, is no fun at all, believe me.

Moving. Argh. Why did I undertake this, this... <grumbles>

Has nobody every told you that you move into an apaprtment after the furniture is there and not before it's there?
And that it's always helpful to have lots of friends and rent a little lorry for all the 'necessary' stuff?

With my whole things being spread between my former hometown and Cologne, the partial-moving-thing wouldn't have worked. ;-)
And after watching the movers sigh, secretly curse at, and labor over the amount of books, furniture etc., I'm quite glad I didn't try to do this on my own! In front of my inner eye, I can easily imagine my friends collapsed in my new apartment, squashed under the bookshelves. *grins*

Hm, it only wold have worked if you'd kept the apartment a bit longer or stored everything in your parents basement with the order to bring parts and pieces everytime they come visit you. My parents are still trying to unload stuff and were even successfull, as by now all my book-boxes are in my basement and no longer in theirs. I would have prefered if they'd kept the stuff as their basement is so much bigger than mine, alsmost as big as my livingroom.

Friends can be very sturdy . Mine are all lucky as they live far away, so I have to think of something when I decide to move again. Maybe this winter? You already have plans for, hm, November?

Oh, you definitely have to keep one weekend free as it's my birthday in November and this year I'll try to throw a smallish party .

Nope, so far for November, I don't have any plans... :-)

And why not do both at the same time -- moving and birthday party? I could come over on that weekend... <smile>

Was soll's. ;-)

Es ist vorbei! :-)))))
