Aww, that sucks. It's easier for me, I guess, because fandom has always been more important to me than the actual TV show, and I'm perfectly willing to take fanon over canon every day.

I was in the Sentinel fandom for over a year before I ever saw a single episode, and most of the stories I read were about Jim's and Blair's epic friendship and the Sentinel/Guide relationship. And then I saw the actual show and discovered to my shock that actually, the Sentinel/Guide thing wasn't even really mentioned, and Jim didn't seem to like or respect Blair all that much. That show taught me to stick my fingers in my ears, sing "lalala" really loudly, and concentrate on the fanon portrayals of the characters.
